Fishermen caught with endangered species out of season

Aaron Humes:  Three fishermen, two Honduran nationals and one Belizean, were charged with fisheries offences when they appeared today before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza: 48 year old Belizean, Grevil Franklin Lara, and Honduran nationals, 37 year old Miguel Angel Miranda and 34 year old Marco Antonio Castillo Vasquez, following a bust by the Belize Coast Guard. Fisher men charged

They appeared in court today and pleaded guilty to the charges of illegal commercial fishing and not possessing a valid fishing license.

They were all fined $250 each, to be paid by April 8, in default 2 months in prison. Miranda and Vasquez were each fined $250 plus $5 court cost for engaging in illegal commercial fishing with the same penalty – a $250 fine or 2 months in prison.

Only Lara was allowed to go free. Miranda and Vasquez were detained because of their immigration status in Belize.
