By Aaron Humes: Belmopan Police say they expect to charge the man who allegedly killed 45 year old Maria Candelaria Chacon Reymundo early on Friday morning, later this weekend.
The mother of 8 was viciously murdered inside her home on Panama Street in Salvapan, allegedly hacked to death following a fight with her common law husband, who later turned himself in to police.
Officer Commanding the capital’s police, Superintendent Howell Gillett, on Friday said they had no warning of this death, as neither party had reported any domestic violence issues to police.
Police have recovered a machete said to be used in the killing. Information suggests that the man was behaving in an abnormal manner in the last few days before this morning’s tragedy.
One of Maria’s sons said he was awoken with the awful news and arrived to find police standing guard over his dead mother’s bed. She had died about 30 minutes after police arrived, waiting for the ambulance.
Family members have said on the record that they long told Maria to leave her abusive relationship with the accused, but she did not take heed.
