VIP calls on GOB to take pro-active stance with Guatemala

By BBN Staff: A press release issued today by political party, Vision Inspired by the People (VIP), denounced Guatemala’s military aggression toward Belizean soldiers and citizens, who have recently been denied access into and around the Sarstoon River.

The release states that Guatemala’s government is pursuing a path of military intimidation against us, which is a clear violation of its obligations as a member of the United Nations and calls on our government to adopt a more proactive approach in dealing with this matter.

It goes on to recall the incident when citizens on a Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) trip were detained by Guatemalans and released the following day without charges and urges the Government of Belize to refrain from blaming the BTV for “Guatemala’s naked aggression.”

The VIP’s release ends by stating to our government that only if Belizeans are united and supported in protecting our territory will Belize prevail as an independent nation with all its territory intact.
