The boys, 19 and 16, reported to police that around 10:00 that night, while walking in the direction of Belize City, they were approached from behind by two dark skinned men on bicycles.

One of the men placed a sharp object to the minor’s back, then demanded that they hand over their belongings. The teens complied and handed over their cell phones valued at a total of $500, after which the men rode off in the direction of Belcan Bridge.

Still frightened and wanting their phones back, the victims ran until they saw a uniformed police officer in front of a bar and explained what had happened. Two officers then immediately set chase in the direction that the thieves had gone, eventually spotting persons on bicycles that matched the description given.

The men were stopped, searched and the stolen cell phones, as well as a sharp aluminum object were found in their possession. Carlos Molina, 21, Ying Aranda, 32, have since been detained pending charges.
