OAS asks Belize and Guatemala to avoid escalation of tensions

By BBN Staff: A press release issued by the OAS General Secretariat this afternoon, states that it will investigate the shooting incident that has sparked tension between Guatemala and Belize.
The release asks both countries to avoid an escalation of tensions and to renew efforts to establish lasting peace, as well as encourages the use of the International Court of Justice to resolve the dispute.
It also sends condolences to the family of the minor who was shot and emphasizes the need to put in place confidence building measures that will prevent future confrontations which could put at risk, peace and stability in the adjacency zone and Sarstoon River.
