Cancer ribbonBy Aaron Humes: May is Cancer Awareness Month and the Belize Cancer Society kicked off its planned activities on Sunday, under the theme “I can, we can – understand that early detection saves lives.”

Senior administrator for the society, Heather Reneau says the society will be busy organizing the annual Cancer Walk on May 28 as well as a first ever awareness ride two weeks earlier. The Walk routinely draws more than 5,000 participants trekking from Ladyville to Belize City from pre-dawn.

T-shirts are on sale at the Society’s Mercy Lane office in Belize City and district branches across the country for 30 dollars in all sizes. Funds go to supporting patients around the country to understand and tackle their disease.

The Government of Belize is supporting the Society with a special cycling activity involving chief executive officers this coming Saturday.
