DOEBy BBN Staff: A press release issued by the Department of the Environment (DOE) earlier today, invites the general public, as well as the media, to participate in this year’s “Walk for A Green Belize” cleanup.

Last year’s cleanup was very successful, yielding a total of 16,541 pounds of garbage that was picked up and properly disposed in 2,363 trash bags, made possible through the assistance of Belize Solid Waste Management and Audubon Society.

Scheduled for Saturday, May 21st, and in preparation for World Environment Day on June 5th, the DOE hopes to match last year’s success in this cleanup campaign along the entire George Price Highway, measuring 77 miles.

The event will begin at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to conclude by 11:00 a.m, with police and transport department personnel at hand to keep participants safe. All interested persons are welcomed to participate in the effort.
