generic-shooting-graphicBy BBN Staff: A 24-year-old Belize City resident, Alston Smith, has been arrested and charged by police for the offense of ‘aggravated assault’ after he fired shots at a 17-year-old male minor.

The minor, accompanied by his sister, reported to police yesterday evening that around 4:45 p.m., he was in front of his house when Smith approached him, took out a gun from his pants and proceeded to chase him down Mopan Street.

He told officers that upon reaching Vernon Street, he saw Smith pointing the gun at him and then heard several shots but was able to make it to the nearby checkpoint where police assisted him.

At the scene, two 9-millimeter expended shells were recovered and Smith was charged accordingly.
