belize-supreme-court-houseBy Aaron Humes: Over half a million dollars worth of court audio recording equipment was handed over yesterday morning to the Belize Supreme and Magistrate’s Courts in Belize City.

The donation is courtesy the US Backed Central American Regional Security Initiative and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (CARSI-INL).

The equipment will allow the courts to move from a manual to a digital mode of recording hearings.

In related news, US Ambassador Carlos Moreno informed that they are currently working on an audio-visual connection between the courts, police stations and the Belize Central Prison.

The objective is to hold certain short proceedings like arraignments without having to transfer prisoners to court.
