Police step up operations after fatal and violent start to weekend

Aaron Humes: There was a fatal shooting incident reported on Kraal Road in Belize Cityon Friday night. Details are scarce but we understand that the victim died early this morning in hospital while in the Intensive Care Unit. 

Several other persons were reported injured in separate incidents betweenFriday night and today, Saturday.

Officer commanding Eastern Division (South) Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has advised Belize City residents that in light of this homicide and the shooting incident reported earlier on Friday in front of the Queen Street Police Station, police have taken several measures.

Williams says police stepped up patrols in gang-affected areas and targeted heavily-tinted vehicles in stop-and-searches, discouraging persons from hanging out on street corners and targeting known gang members moving around on bicycles and motorcycles. He has asked for patience as police work to maintain law, order and safety.
