By BBN Staff: A late Friday evening traffic accident claimed one life.
The incident happened sometime around 4:00 on Friday afternoon along mile 35 on the Hummingbird Highway when Jodine Gill, a 28-year-old teacher, lost control of her maroon 2004 Nissan X-Terra SUV while she was heading to Belmopan.
Gill, who is from Roaring Creek, was travelling with two other teachers, Dona Escoto, 31 and Dania Portillo, 30. Gill told authorities that she was distracted by one of her passengers and lost control of her vehicle and overturned.
Escoto sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the Western Regional Hosptial. Portillo sustained a broken left leg and swelling to the left side of her jaw. She was taken to Belize City for medical attention. Gill sustained head injuries and abrasions to both her hands.
Gill’s SUV was extensively damaged. Police has obtained a blood sample from Gill and continue to investigate the incident.
