By Aaron Humes: After a firm statement from party leader John Briceno that it is not Belizean to hate and be divisive, the People’s United Party has stated that it is trying to see all sides of the heated debate – and not pick a side.

Acknowledging that “Our nation…was founded on principles which acknowledge the supremacy of God and respect for the principle of social justice.” It goes unto say, “Enshrined in our Constitution is our “faith in human rights and fundamental freedoms.”

While the party respects the court’s decision, it claims that the people ultimately determine how we as a society should choose to live and be governed, and for that reason the party is fine with those who want to challenge the decision in a higher court.  The release then makes another turn by saying, “(we) maintain our position that there can be no room for hatred among Belizeans. We also stand firmly with the Churches and other organizations whose religious beliefs may compel them to reject certain lifestyles and to defend the nature of marriage to be between a man and a woman.”

So whose side is the PUP on? That is to be determined.
