By BBN Staff: The Benque branch of the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) wants more than just a salary adjustment.

The branch is also demanding that Prime Minister Dean Barrow appeal Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin’s ruling on Section 53 of the constitution, a full investigation on the wrong doing revealed in the Auditor General’s Immigration audit, an independent investigation into the Mason case, and that the government sign the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

“Hope all teachers will give their full and unconditional support to this cause as we need to get our country back,” reads the post on their Facebook page.

The BTNU Benque branch also intends to close down the schools in their area but before they do, they need to do proper planning. They stated that in their last meeting the teachers voted no to the deferral but the PM had asked all three unions to consult its members. Up to date, there has been no response from the Public Service Union.
