U.S. Government gives $1.6 million in grants to 7 organizations in Belize

By BBN Staff: The U.S. Government has shared their support and partnership with Belize in many forms.

Since 2008, Belize has received USD $35 million dollars through the CARSI funds (Central America Regional Security Initiative).Through the Military Liaison Office, Belize has also received USD$10 million via the Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP).

The U.S. Government also provided support to the victims of Hurricane Earl in the amount of USD $315,000 Post-Hurricane Assistance.

On Tuesday, September 27, seven organizations in Belize received CARSI ESF grants to provide job creation opportunities to marginalized communities as an alternative to crime and violence. This also includes activities that strengthen local capacity to prevent and/or responding to gender-based violence affecting at-risk youth in Belize.

The total amount awarded was $1.6 million dollars.

The grants were awarded to Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE), Ocean Academy, Love Foundation, RET International, Stann Creek ITVET (Project Extension), Young Women Christian Association (Project Extension) and Belize Family Life Association (Gender Based Violence).
