NEMO issues Advisory 1

BBN Staff:The National Meteorological Service and the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) has issued advisory No. 1 on Hurricane Matthew.

Matthew is being closely monitored as a powerful category 4 hurricane. Matthew is located at 13.5 North latitude and 71.6 West Longitude packing winds of 140 miles per hour. Matthew is moving West South West at 9 miles per hour.

The system is more than 1,000 miles away from Belize therefore poses no immediate threat to Belize.

People that live in flood prone areas, fisher folks, and farmers are advised to monitor Hurricane Matthew in the event that the predicted northward turn does not materialize over the weekend.

NEMO national and district committees have been notified to monitor and prepare for any developments associated with Matthew.

This advisory is an early warning from NEMO in the event that there is a change in Matthew’s projected path over the weekend.
