Mayor of Orange Walk supports BNTU

Posted: Monday, October 3, 2016. 11:40 am CST.

BBN Staff:The Mayor of Orange Walk town has issued a press release today expressing continued support for the Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU).

The mayor says that “these courageous men and women have taken up a noble fight against corruption, demanding good governance – a stance which if successful will benefit ALL of us, the entire country now and under any future government.”

He makes a plea to all parents to stand together in support of the teachers.

“Do not be fooled by the baseless propaganda that our children are being held ransom because teachers have taken this bold position against corruption. How could any of our children suffer from getting the opportunity to live in a society in which there is good governance and checks and balances? As parents, we owe this to our children,” he said.

He also calls on all entities that have stood aside stating: “If you cannot or will not stand for good governance and support an end to corruption, then you are a part of the problem. It is as simple as that. This is not about political agendas, this is about demanding what all of us as Belizeans deserve – a government that works for us and answers to us.”

He ends by condemning the bullying tactics of this administration, the name-calling, the insults, personal attacks, threats and intimidation. “Not one of the demands by the teachers, and in fact by so many Belizeans is unreasonable or unjust. It is a call for accountability and transparency – nothing more and nothing less,” he added.
