Canadian travel agents say Belize is “hot”

By BBN Staff:Canadian travel agents and tourism industry officials, at a recent tourism-based focus discussion, said Belize is one of the most popular travel destinations now.

Kim Tobias, a representative for WestJet Airlines, said tickets to Belize and Costa Rica have been selling very well this season. Tobias made her comments at the Focus 2016 Travelsavers Owners Retreat.

Travel agents noted a shift in the industry as travelers are moving away from “all-inclusive” packages and are going for more “a-la-carte” style packages. These allow the travelers an opportunity to experience parts of their destination outside of the resort they choose to stay.

The discussion also included marketing tips, ways to increase agency sales and utilizing the latest technology tools. The sold-out event was attended by officials from various tourism boards, cruise lines, tour operators, insurance companies and airlines.

Officials also noted that destination weddings are becoming more lucrative in the tourism industry. Jamaica is a popular destination for destination weddings as the country has made it easy to plan a wedding there, with little red tape.
