By BBN Staff: The Belize National Teachers Union (BNTU) is scheduled to meet with Education Minister Patrick Faber on Friday.
The meeting comes after the Ministry announced earlier this month
that it would not be making any contributions to the salaries of
teachers who were absent for eleven days on protest.
Minister Faber had then instructed the leadership of the BNTU to
compensate teachers from the union’s strike fund.
However, BNTU President Luke Palacio strongly objected and maintained that the Ministry had no business in withholding contributions to salaries as legally it is the school managers who must make that decision.
The Ministry then decided that it would wait until November to withhold its contributions to the salaries of teachers who protested.
BBN will provide an update following the meeting on Friday.
