Posted: Wednesday, November 2, 2016. 11:23 a.m. CST.

By BBN Staff: Two needs roads, August Pine Ridge to Blue Creek and Yo Creek to San Antonio, will be inaugurated tomorrow.

The $21 million project was financed by the European Union (EU) and the Government of Belize. The project saw the rehabilitation of the August Pine Ridge to Blue Creek Road (for a length of 13 miles or 20.8 km), and Yo Creek to San Antonio Road (for a length of 3.7 or 5.92 km).

The August Pine Ridge to Blue Creek Road and Yo Creek to San Antonio Road are both important for the agricultural, tourism and social development of northern Belize. These roads posed additional transportation cost and hardship to farmers because of their deteriorated conditions. The rehabilitation consists of the supply, construction, installation, and completion of the following: site clearance; culvert and drain construction; provision, transportation, placement and compaction of fill and surface dress (pavement standard) with double and single chip seal.

The inauguration ceremony of the Roads will be presided by Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Belize, Ambassador Malgorzata Wasilewska.

Other attendees will include the Minister of Agriculture, Godwin Hulse; Minister of Works, Rene Montero; the contractors and other dignitaries as well as chairpersons and officials of the surrounding villages; chairmen of the different cane farmers’ associations; and other senior public officials.
