By BBN Staff: NEMO minister and Area Representative for Belize Rural North, Edmond Castro, has embarked on a flood mitigation program in conjunction with the upgrading of streets in villages throughout his constituency.

Currently, a number streets in the community of Maxborro in Sandhill Village, which have been prone to seasonal flooding, are being elevated, graded and rolled, while drains are also being dug and cleared. The same is occurring in the Horse Racing Track area of Burrell Boom Village.

Flood mitigation measures and street upgrades will be carried out throughout the constituency of Belize Rural North between now and the start of the next Hurricane Season on June 1, 2017.

Castro says his Ministry and the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) are looking at a number of other areas countrywide to execute similar projects to mitigate seasonal flooding.
