By BBN Staff: The Embassy of Mexico in Belize officially launched ‘Ven a comer en Belize!’ on Friday.
It is a project that promotes Mexico around the world through gastronomy.
The four-day event will include workshops, as well as interactive training sessions with students of the Hospitality Services Program of the ITVET-Belize City with Mexican Chef Jose Figueroa, and a cocktail dinner for especial guests.
Figueroa was born in Tijuana, Mexico. He graduated from the Culinary Art School in Tijuana and has been involved in the Hospitality/Culinary services field for 11 years. Figueroa has worked in different restaurants in Mexico and abroad, such as La Finca de Adobe and L´Enclume in the United Kingdom. He also owns the food truck La Carmelita in Tijuana.
Mexican Cuisine is listed as one of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, an achievement which is only shared by the Mediterranean culinary tradition as well as by the French and Japanese cuisines.
