By BBN Staff: At today’s Sitting of the House, former Deputy Prime Minister of Belize Gaspar Vega was notably absent.
This is one of a couple notable absences in recent times since Vega resigned as UDP’s Deputy Party Leader and the land scandal involving his son surfaced publicly.
This comes after his son Andre Vega and attorney Sharon Pitts were amidst a land scandal involving the illegal transfer of lands valued at $400,000 which was given as compensation to each.
The Ministry of Natural Resources had written to Pitts and Vega on October 31 demanding a refund of the compensation monies within one month. This week, the Acting Solicitor General was preparing to file a claim against Pitts and Vega.
Reports are that Pitts had responded promising further comment on December 1. However to date no other response has been forthcoming.
Vega has not responded at all.
