By BBN Staff: The government is reportedly faced with the dilemma of another Cabinet minister resigning from office in a span of two months.
According to unconfirmed reports, Minister of Natural Resources/Attorney General Vanessa Retreage has tendered her resignation.
The comes at an especially unstable time for government and in the wake of former Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega’s resignation. Vega, who was Minister of Agriculture at the time, was disgraced when a corrupt scheme at the lands department involving Andre Vega and Sharon Pitts being compensated for lands obtained illegally was revealed.
According to reports, Retreage submitted her resignation after uncovering the shady transfer of 1,600 acres of farm lands in Carmelita last week.
During Friday’s house meeting PUP Deputy Leader Cordel Hyde revealed that those lands had been transferred into the names of three relatives of Gaspar Vega after the government transferred them into the names of private citizens.
Unconfirmed reports also indicate that Dr. Carla Barnett may be the new Lands minister and House Speaker Michael Peyrefitte may be the new Attorney General.
BBN will continue to monitor this situation for more developments.
