By BBN Staff: The Black Orchid resort, located just outside the village of Burrell Boom, will be hosting the first of its December “Brukdown” jam events this coming Sunday starting at midday.

The event will feature the best of Creole culture including a delicious array of local Creole cuisine as well as live performances by top Creole bands. On Sunday, Brads Patico and his band will be the featured performer at the Pan Di Riva Restaurant and Bar located on the premises of the Black Orchid Resort. The brukdown jam event will also be held on Christmas Day and on New Year’s Eve.

On New Year’s Eve a dinner dance will also be held at 8:30 p.m. to bring in the New Year.

There is no cover charge for the December 18 and December 25 events, but the restaurant and bar will be open for lunch. The charge for the New Year’s event is $50 and includes dinner. All of the special presentations are open for both guests of the resort and members of the public.

Creole music is a mixture of European harmonies, African rhythms, and call-and-response formats influenced by Caribbean genres. Traditional Creole instruments include the accordion, donkey’s jawbone, banjo, guitar, and drums. Creole food traditions include rice and beans, stewed chicken, fresh seafood, fish, lobster, conch, potatoes, plantains, potatoes, and more exotic game meats like iguana and gibnut.

“Located in the predominately Creole village of Burrell Boom, we’re looking forward to giving guests and visitors a chance to experience authentic Creole culture,”  Douglas Thompson, managing director of Black Orchid Resort said. “We have organized these events as a way to help celebrate the holidays and ring in the new year with plenty of good food, music, and cheer.”

Black Orchid is an award-winning resort located on the banks of the Old Belize River just outside of the village of Burrell Boom in the country’s Belize District.
