New York Times names Belize as a must-visit destination

By BBN Staff: The New York Times, one of America’s largest and leading news outlets, recently named Belize among its list of 52 places to visit in 2017.

The New York Times article notes that there are thousands of great travel destinations all around the world but said the countries on its list of 52 are great places to get started.

The article names southern Belize, specifically Placencia, as one of the best destinations to visit this year.  With reference to how ecotourism is expanding in Placencia, the article describes how golf carts are the most popular form of transportation on the 16-mile peninsula and that the area is home to a variety of yoga studios, spas, and luxury resorts.

The New York Times highlighted the fact that the “laid-back beach town” of Placencia (the village that serves as the capital of the peninsula) is close to many of the prime locations on the Belize Barrier Reef, including where scuba divers can swim with migrating whale sharks.
