Billionaire businessman Donald Trump was officially sworn into office as the 45th President of the USA at US capital in Washington D.C. yesterday.
It was a historic transfer of power as former president Barack Obama served the country for 8 years.
Trump has made many significant changes in his short time in office. One notable change is that for the first time since 1989 there is no latino member on his cabinet.
Yesterday, First Lady Melania and President Trump were welcomed to the White House by outgoing President Barack Obama and outgoing first lady Michelle Obama.
Obama was asked about his final words for the American people by CNN and he said “ Thank you.” He and Michelle also posted gratitude notes on their Twitter pages.
Vice president Mike Pence was also sworn into office yesterday.
There were also several protests around Washington D.C. on inauguration day at various security checkpoints as police helped ticket-holders get through to the inaugural ceremony. Some of their signs read, “Resist Trump Climate Justice Now,” ”Let Freedom Ring,” and “Free Palestine.”
Reports are that a massive Women’s March on Washington is planned for today, Saturday.
