By BBN Staff: A one-year-old baby boy drowned in a well in the Maya Mopan area in Belmopan over the weekend. On Saturday around 12:44 p.m. Belmopan police received information of a drowning in the Maya Mopan area.
Police spoke with 28-year-old Lorena Duartes, the mother of the child, of La Mux Street who reported that some time after 12:00 midday, while hanging out clothes she heard screaming from behind her residence.
When she went to the area, she saw her son, Edwin Lorenzo Duartes, in a deep well located behind the house.
The child was retrieved from the well and taken to the Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 1:04 p.m.
