By BBN Staff: Thirty years ago Dolores Balderamos Garcia began legal practice in Belize after completing her studies at Norman Manley School of Law.

However, this week she was promoted to a Senior Counsel within the legal arena.

Aside from being one of the country’s finest legal minds, Balderamos-Garcia has enjoyed her portion of success as well as failures in the political arena.

In 1993 she served as a Senator for the then Opposition People’s United Party (PUP) led by George Cadle Price.

In 1998 she was elected to office after securing victory in Port Loyola.

However, she was not successful in the 2003 General Election and was appointed as Senator in 2005 while the PUP was led by Prime Minister Said Musa.

Balderamos-Garcia would once again rise to power in the 2012 elections but this time in the Belize Rural Central constituency.

She was the only woman to have a seat in the House of Representatives during that term.
