By BBN Staff: We have confirmed that 86 year old Bishop Osmond Peter Martin passed away early this morning.

Further details regarding his death has not yet been made public.

In December 2007, Bishop O. P. Martin had submitted his resignation to the Vatican upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75.

Bishop Martin led the Catholic Diocese of Belize since 1983, when he succeeded Bishop Robert L Hodapp, S.J.

Bishop O. P. Martin was born in Dangriga on 4th December 1930, was ordained a Priest in 1959 when he was 28 years old and was appointed Bishop of Belize at the age of 52.
