By BBN Staff: The National Garifuna Council 9NGC) issued a press release today saying joining Belize in expressing condolences to the Martin family and the Roman Catholic Dioceses of Belize on the transition of beloved, retired “Ibisibu” (Bishop) Osmond Peter Martin to Seiri. Bishop Martin was a proud Garifuna who embraced the Catholic teachings and our Garifuna spirituality, the NGC said.

“He was a voice for the Garifuna People through his empowering Homilies at masses, especially the Garifuna Thanksgiving Masses on Garifuna Settlement Day.  He was never afraid to speak out on issues that concerned the advancement of this country. Bishop Martin was a respectable, dedicated, committed, and great spiritual leader who embraced the contribution of young people to the ministry. Under his leadership, the youth ministry in the church blossomed to empower engaged youth leaders who are now productive leaders in various fields contributing to the development of Belize,” the release states.

The Council mourns with the Catholic Church of Belmopan and Belize as they prepare to bid farewell to Bishop Martin. We pray for peace, strength, endurance, comfort, and faith during this challenging time, the NGC said.  We also join in the celebration of the life and contribution of Bishop O.P. Martin; long live his memories, it ended.

Bishop Martin has accomplished his mission as stated in Psalm 116:14 “I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people”.

“Wasati Bemeri Ibisibu……..Your Path is Clear, Bishop”
