House destroyed by fire in Benque

By BBN Staff:A house in the “Better in Belize” settlement situated at mile 13 on the Hydro Road, Cayo was completely destroyed by fire yesterday morning.

Officers arrived on the scene shortly before 10:00 a.m. and observed the remains of a wooden home, belonging to Annatasia Thorne. Thorne was not at home at the time of the fire.

Initial police investigations reveal that yesterday sometime between the hours of 7:30 and 7:40 a.m., farm workers saw the blaze and when they went to check, they discovered the house measuring approximately 24 by 30 feet, engulfed in flames.

The home and its contents were all destroyed by the fire.

A blue Toyota Tundra pick-up that was parked approximately seven feet away from the house was also damaged.

The house was insured. The value of the total damage is estimated at US $130,000.

The fire was extinguished by Benque Viejo fire personnel.

Police investigations continue.
