American woman drowns in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

By BBN Staff:Rickilee Michelle Mercer, 29, an American citizen drowned in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye this week.

The incident happened on Tuesday at around 2:30 p.m..

According to reports, she was jet skiing along with fellow American national 39-year-old Marvin Hazim Yono near the Northwest area of San Pedro Town known as, “Secret Beach,” when they both fell off a jet ski.

Yono swam to shore but Mercer never resurfaced and was reported missing.

Her family was notified later that night but claimed they did not know the man she was with.

Shortly after midday on Wednesday, a body was found four miles away from “Secret Beach” by a Police and Coast Guard search party.

While Belizean authorities suspect that the body is that of Mercer, her family will conduct an in person identification today to confirm her identity.
