By BBN Staff:Yesterday, a team of electricians from Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) removed empty Osprey nests from transmission structures near the coastline in Bomba and San Pedro in the Belize District.

According to BEL, the nests sometimes cause power interruptions and as a result, they placed deterrents on their structures and installed platforms for the birds to build their nests which are away from the power system.       The new installed platforms will better manage reliability for customers and take care of wildlife in Belize.

Yesterday, there was also an unknown cause of power interruption affecting portion of the Belize District since 6:22 a.m. which included all areas of Mile 13 – 35 along Philip Goldson Highway and villages along the old Northern Highway. BEL said in a Facebook update that the cause was due to fallen tree limbs on high voltage power lines. Power supply was restored by 8:40 a.m..

BBN applauds BEL for their commitment to excellent customer service and for taking initiatives in protecting wildlife in Belize.
