Eric Chang answers to Senate Select Committee; Rejects allegations about involvement in Immigration Scandal

By BBN Staff: One of the most infamous personalities in the Auditor General’s Special Audit Report into the irregularities of the Passport and Immigration Department is former deputy mayor of Belize City, Eric Chang.

Chang had declined an invitation to appear before the Senate Select Committee three weeks ago.

However, today, Chang is answering to the Committee and seems to have suffered a severe case of amnesia.

Chang has rejected several allegations in the report and his involvement in the purchasing of visas that went missing from the western border in 2012.

Chang says his only involvement is introducing his friend John Liu, who obtained a visa (and conveniently is no longer in Belize) from immigration officer Patrick Tillett.

He told the Committee that he stayed as far as he could from immigration matters and did not refer to or request any assistance from public officers for issues in relation to immigration.
