By BBN Staff: People’s United Party Leader, Johnny Briceño, this week, issued a warning to all PUP party members, that those unwilling to follow his leadership will be cut off.
Briceño, speaking at a press conference at PUP headquarters yesterday, made it plain that his plans to take the party forward does not include insubordinate party members.
“I have said that we are going to unite and we are going to march forward and those that don’t want to unite, they will have to leave and go somewhere else. And I am not saying this about Julius Espat, I’m just saying it about the entire party,” Briceño said.
His remarks come after Espat, one of the party’s deputy leaders publicly aired his discontent with the PUP leadership on Plus TV’s Morning Talk Show. Espat had called the PUP front liners “bench warmers” and accused the current configuration of the party’s leadership as being the reason the party is continuously losing elections.
Briceño, in response, said that he did not agree with Espat’s methods but conceded that he had a right to be concerned.
“But this is the beauty of the PUP. We have people with strong personalities and strong ideas that feel passionate about their position,” Briceño added.
He went on to say that the Party’s Constitution does not mandate that all of its parliamentarians be a part of the party’s national executive. He also pointed out that 9 of the 12 parliamentarians are a part of the party’s executive.
