By BBN Staff: Eight delegates of the Belize High School are currently in Panama City, Panama representing school and country in the HACIA Democracy, XXIII Summit of the Americas.
Harvard Association Cultivating Inter-American Democracy (HACIA Democracy) is organized annually by Harvard University.
The delegates spent months researching their positions on issues ranging from Trade Barriers to Education Reform and are currently presenting in their first round of meetings.
Chief of Delegation Senior Marlina Eck leads Juniors Adrian Leslie, Ethan Singh, Hannah McLean, Morgan Miles, Nikol Bartakova Vivian Reynoso, and Freshman Mauro Campos.
The Belize High School issued a release today stating that “These bright, young students debate topics of direct relevance to their lives with their peers from different countries, backgrounds and opinions.”
The Delegation joins over 400 delegates representing 35 high schools and 12 countries, from Canada to Argentina participating in the Summit of the Americas.
Ethan Singh is participating in the Essay Competition and sharing his rendition of Vivir Mi Vida on piano in the Summit’s Talent Show, while Vivian Reynoso is participating in the art competition.
All delegates presented during the Welcome Ceremony at the Taste of HACIA with the entire Delegation presenting a cultural dance during the talent show.
The Belize High School says that it is extremely proud to represent their school, community and country at HACIA Democracy: a modern, internationally renowned OAS simulation conference for the fifth consecutive year.
The school thanks the families for their support and preparation in making this another successful academic and educational experience and congratulates all the delegates for their personal commitment to excellence.
The delegates will be immersed in an awesome experience, learning the workings of the world’s most influential organizations – not by reading, but by doing.
“As the youth of the Americas, they are embracing their power to directly impact issues that affect our country,” the release ends.
HACIA Democracy was established in 1994 and since then the conference has expanded and improved each year. In its 23rd Summit, HACIA remains the oldest and largest simulation of the Organization of American States in the world.
