By BBN Staff: Career politician, Michael Finnegan, who has represented the Mesopotamia constituency in Belize City since time immemorial told 7news yesterday that he will not seek re-election.

According to Finnegan, he may serve out the remainder of his term scheduled to end in 2020 or if necessary he may vacate office earlier.

His nephew Shyne Barrow who is the eldest son of Prime Minister Dean Barrow has expressed interest in succeeding him.

Finnegan told 7News on Friday that he is willing to support his nephew in his political endeavors.

According to our sources, the Opposition People’s United Party (PUP) is seeking to groom a young and vibrant candidate to challenge Shyne Barrow when the seat in Mesopotamia becomes available.
