By BBN Staff: Prior to yesterday’s budget presentation many feared that GOB might have raised the General Sales Tax (GST) from 12.5 to 15 percent. Prime Minister Dean Barrow, however, assured that there would be no increase in the GST amidst a fiscal re-adjustment plan aimed at meeting a 2 percent annual GDP growth target for the next four years.
And while GST has not gone up, consumers will soon start paying the tax on their B.E.L bills. GST will be charged on any electricity bill exceeding $100. Yesterday at the reading of the 2017-2018 budget, PM Barrow proposed that the GST threshold for electricity consumption be lowered from $200 to $100.
