By BBN Staff: Belizeans whose electricity bills exceed $100 will now have to pay General Sales Tax (GST) on their monthly bills.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow, in his budget presentation last week, introduced a tax package aimed at collecting more revenues while curbing expenditure.
Barrow said that by lowering the tax threshold for electricity consumption from $200 to $100 will yield 0.19 percent of GDP.
With this adjustment, government expects to collect a total of $7 million in revenues in the new fiscal year from Belizeans paying GST on their electricity bills.
