By BBN Staff: Yesterday at 8:15 a.m., police visited an accident scene between miles 57and 58 on the Phillip Goldson Highway where a pickup truck and a motor cycle collided injuring the motorcycle driver.
On the scene was a White 4-door 2001 Ford Ranger Pickup driven at the time by 31-year-old Hernan Cortez, laborer of corner Santa Rita and San Narciso Street, Orange Walk Town.
About two feet away in front of the pickup was a white Meilun Scooter with extensive damages to the front portion driven at the time by 25-year-old Matthew James Cocom, laborer of Trial Farm Village.
Cocom suffered severe head and body injuries.
Investigations revealed that Cocom was driving towards Orange Walk from the direction of Corozal and was apparently overtaking a cane truck and did not notice that the white Ford Ranger Pickup was coming in the opposite direction and collided head on into it.
His body was then transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead on arrival.
Cortez was served with a notice of intended prosecution.
Police investigations continue.
