By BBN Staff: H.E Dr. Dylan Vernon, Ambassador of Belize to Belgium and the European Union (EU), assumed the chairmanship of the Sugar Subcommittee of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) on Wednesday, March 22nd, according to a Government of Belize press release.
“Ambassador Vernon will lead the ACP Sugar Subcommittee during a period of challenges for ACP sugar exporters like Belize. The expiry of EU domestic sugar quotas in September 2017 is expected to lead to contraction of the EU market for imported sugar and price decrease. The impending withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU is also expected to add further uncertainty to the market for sugar in Europe,” the release states.
The release ends by saying that, “The ACP Sugar Subcommittee is comprised of 31 sugar producing countries across Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific and engages with the EU to protect the interests its members in supplying sugar to the EU market.”
