Fire in Belize City leaves 16 families homeless today

By BBN Staff:Sixteen families are distraught tonight as their home with everything that they own went up in flames earlier today.

A mid afternoon fire gutted almost a whole neighborhood this afternoon in Belize City.

The inferno occurred around 4:30 this evening and destroyed a long barracks by Majestic Alley basketball court.

Information to BBN suggests that the fire began from an elevated wooden structure off the basketball court and then spreaded to the barracks.

There were no fatalities.

Police and firefighters have not yet managed to out the fire and one house is still burning as this story is posted. It is the home of Junie Balls. Balls is a former gang leader from Majestic Alley who was murdered.

The area representative for the division, Said Musa is on the scene with the families.

Police have not yet issued an official report on this incident.
