By BBN Staff: A video surfaced on social media a couple days ago showing some residents of Melchor de Mencos, Guatemala gathered at a protest near the Western border.

In the video, the residents are shouting insults at Belizeans and at the Organization of American States (OAS) office in the area.

The Guatemalans also state in the video that the OAS is “good for nothing” since they allegedly only listen to Belize’s concerns.

Unconfirmed reports state that the protest is a part of an annual event that a local university holds, where citizens go out to the streets and express their thoughts and concerns.

“La huelga de dolores” – (The strike of pains) is the name of the event and it began in Guatemala in 1898. Students from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala use the opportunity to take to the streets to march and denounce the problems of their country every year.
