NICH launches series of lectures on National Symbols of Belize

By BBN Staff: The Museum of Belize, in the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) is launching the first of a series of lectures focused on the National Symbols of Belize.

The lectures, which begins today with the National Flag and Coat of Arms, are done in collaboration with the University of Belize.

Today’s presentation included presentations from the University of Belize, as well as from the Director of the Institute for Social ND Cultural Research, Nigel Encalada.

The lectures are geared towards fostering a greater appreciation for the symbols, and greater national pride among students and the wider community.

Topics of discussion include: The Colonial Flag, the unofficial Belizean Flag, the Belizean National Flag, the Governor’s Badge, Coat of Arms 1907, Coat of Arms 1967,  and the present coat of arms.

NICH will hold a similar lecture this afternoon at the UB Jaguar Auditorium in Belmopan.
