Guatemalans busted with gold in Chiquibul

By BBN Staff: Four Guatemalan gold panners were busted in the Chiquibul on Wednesday.The men have been identified as William Govanni Mangandil, Israel Garcia, Enrique Velis and Hermelindo Velis.

According to reports, BDF personnel and FCD Rangers busted the men in a thatch camp on a hill.

A search led to the discovery of 2 vials of what appeared to be small amounts of gold.

The men were transported from southern Chiquibul to the San Ignacio Police Station where they arrived on Thursday afternoon for charges.

A gram of gold sells in Peten for about 150 quetzales, which is about BZ $47.
