By BBN Staff: The Government of Belize (GoB) has agreed to gift $1 million to teachers that didn’t strike last October.

The Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) has strongly criticized that move.

Here is what the Belize District BNTU President, Kathleen Flowers had to say about it on Facebook yesterday.

“The same way BNTU negotiates and gains benefits for the “entire educators’ body”, eg. The salary adjustment ; similarly that body should participate in other outcomes of  BNTU’S efforts eg. The mediation outcome that has added three days to the calendar. I hear some teachers complaining, especially those who did not strike. But… I don’t hear them saying because they didn’t strike they don’t want that 3% nor the 5%, interest. The million, well that’s another story…”

The BNTU was scheduled to meet on Saturday to take action against GoB’s union busting. However, we are told that the meeting did not materialize.
