By BBN Staff: In only two weeks, five Belizean police officers have been charged for illegal and criminal activities.

The past weeks have been a public relations nightmare for the Belize Police Department.

It began when two crazed cops terrorized resident in San Pedro Town on April 1.  A video was posted on social media showing one of the officers shooting the ground amidst a group of people in San Pedro. The video also shows a woman being “man handled”.

The two police officers, PC Norman Coye and PC Darnell Madrill were charged for excessive use of force.

During the same week, another video surfaced showing PC Jorge Ascurio and a Volunteer Special Constable loading contraband items to the back of a police vehicle.

PC Ascurio was charged for an “Act of Prejudice to Good Order and Discipline” and placed on interdiction while Alfredo Gongora was suspended from the Special Constable Program.

This week, a third video surfaced showing a police vehicle occupied by two police officers speeding and avoiding to stop for a customs patrol vehicle.

The occupants threw out a bag which was later recovered by the custom officers and contained assorted clothes and slippers.

PC Elston Rojas and Cpl. Abner Marroquin were also charged with “Act of Prejudice to Good Order and Discipline”and placed on interdiction from duty.
