By BBN Staff: On April 20, Foreign Ministers from Central America will attend the second Central America Integration System (SICA) forum in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to sources from the Foreign Ministry in Turkey, the forum will see attendees from the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras and Costa Rica along with the minister of state from Nicaragua and the Deputy Minister from Panama.
Prior to the forum, Guatemalan Foreign Minister, Carlos Raul Morales and Minister Miguel Vargas, Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic will hold bi-lateral meetings in Ankara, Turkey’s capital, tomorrow.
The Guatemalan embassy in Ankara will also be inaugurated.
This year, the embassy of the Dominican Republic will also open and become the fourth SICA member joining Costa Rica, Panama and Guatemala to have embassy in Ankara. This will increase the number of Latin American embassies to 13.
SICA has 10 extra regional observers including Italy, Spain, Mexico, Japan and Germany. Its eight full members are Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
SICA was founded in 1991 to increase cooperation for regional peace, political freedom, democracy and economic development among the member states.
