By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department in recent weeks has taken one black eye after the other, from contraband cops caught on cam, to rogue officers terrorizing residents on San Pedro and a police woman charged for stealing from a Chinese grocer. It’s been a tough few weeks for the Department’s image.

The Police Ministry today, however, released a statement in which it assured the public that officers involved in illegal activities would be dealt with judiciously, expeditiously and in a transparent fashion

“The Police Professional Standards Branch’s capacity is being enhanced and will now see its personnel take a pro-active role in ensuring that the Belize Police Department’s professionalism is second to none,” the statement read.

The public is urged by the Ministry to report any suspicious police activity to the Professional Standards Branch.

For actions taken against rogue cops, the Ministry has applauded the Police Commissioner and commended upright officers who continue to set themselves apart from, “those few rogue elements within the Department.”
