Belize’s BETEX Trade Show Continues

Posted: Friday, May 5, 2017. 9:20 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Hundreds of tourism industry professionals gathered at the St. Catherine Academy Auditorium today for day two of the Belize Tourism Expo (BETEX), the largest tourism gathering on the country’s calendar.

The bi-annual event serves as a platform for local tourism professionals such as hotel owners, and makers of cultural products, to meet with international buyers from various parts of the world including Europe, South America and the United States.

Participants will be making pitches to buyers such as wholesalers, travel agents, group travel organizers, corporate travel buyers, event planners, conference organizers, online travel companies and airlines.

The Belize Tourism industry Association (BTIA) is hosting the event, which has some 300 registered participants. The BTIA emphasizes that the expo is a networking opportunity for Belizean companies, to market Belize as the premier tourism destination in the region.

Today marks the last day that companies can arrange to have buyers come to their accommodations for a familiarization tour. The tours serve as a tool for businesses to be able to sell their destinations and products by showing the buyers’ first-hand what they have to offer.

Many businesses that did not have the opportunity to meet with a buyer at the expo can still make a pitch through the familiarization tour.
